Black and white is a classy, modern, and elegant combination for wedding cakes, and you can always add a third color as an accent.
I did a lot of black and white wedding cakes, and these are some of them.

Square tiers with black fondant drapes.
This four-tiered wedding cake had square tiers and black fondant drapes with pink gumpaste calla lilies.
When you’re using black fondant it’s better to buy it instead of trying to make it, since it takes a lot of food coloring to get a real black shade. You can get it on Amazon or at come craft supply stores: Black fondant on Amazon#ad

Black fondant feathers.
This black iridescent cake has black fondant feathers that were brushed with colored pearl dust. You can see how to do that technique here: How to make iridescent feathers.
Black satin ribbons.
This cake had white fondant pearls and black satin ribbons around the center of the tiers. To keep satin ribbons from absorbing the oils from the buttercream, you can rub them with crisco to coat them with oil to get a consistent color. They won’t absorb oil from ribbons and get splotchy if you do that before putting them on the cake.
Black scrollwork piping.
This cake had black buttercream piped in scrollwork on it, then pink fondant ribbons were added to the base of the tiers.
Using fondant ribbons is a good option on buttercream cakes because it won’t absorb oil from the icing, so it won’t develop splotches from the icing.

Black satin ribbons.
This wedding cake had layers of satin ribbons at the base of the tiers. The base was a wide black satin ribbon, and I layered another row with rhinestones on top of that.
Black satin ribbon on square tiers.
This square wedding cake had black satin ribbons at the base of the tiers. With square tiers, you have to make sure that the corners are really upright because wrapping a non-flexible ribbon around a non-upright corner will make it impossible to make it look square.
Fondant ribbon on square tiers.
This square cake had fondant ribbons on it instead of satin ones, so it was easier to make them conform to the shape of the cake. No square cake is ever 100% perfect, so using fondant will usually be easier than trying to fit a real ribbon onto the cake.
Black fondant ribbon and gumpaste flowers.
This cake had thin fondant ribbons and black and white gumpaste ranunculus on it. The minimalist look was nice for an elegant wedding.
Graphic black stripes.
This display cake had black fondant stripes going in different angular patterns. There were orange gumpaste peonies with green leaves to provide a colorful focal point.

Black fondant ribbon and bow.
This cake had white fondant ruffles and a black fondant ribbon with long tails draping on the cake. Gumpaste flowers finished the color scheme with red and ivory.
Black buttercream piping.
This cake had black buttercream piped on it in a lace pattern. This was all done on buttercream, so you have to be careful about the possibility of the color bleeding. Do a test run first to make sure that the humidity and temperature that you’re working with aren’t going to make the icing bleed. Read more about that here.
Black fondant stripes.
This wedding cake had vertical black fondant stripes with white gumpaste flowers on the tiers. It was a nice graphic look for a modern wedding reception.
