If you’re a nature lover, an outdoorsman, or just someone who wants to put an unusual twist on a traditional wedding cake, these nature-themed cakes with natural elements can be a good change from the standard roses or white icing.

Buttercream tree bark cake.
This cake has a wood texture imprinted into the buttercream by dragging a clay tool through it. The carved heart on the front was made from fondant.
Blue wedding cake with white birds.
This cake was covered in blue fondant, and had chocolate clay branches and gumpaste dogwoods, along with gumpaste birds.
Autumn-themed leaves and branches.
I also used the branch mold on this cake with brown fondant and fondant leaves.
Garden cake with a secret door.
This cake was unusual because the couple wanted wildflowers instead of traditional roses. There was also a door inside the cake that had a fondant heart in it.
Strawberry cake.
This cake was covered with gumpaste leaves and gumpaste strawberries. I used red fondant with some tylose in it to make a quick gumpaste that also had the red color.
Black iridescent feathers.
This cake was covered with feathers that were made with fondant and the skinny feather silicone mold.
I used black fondant and brushed the feathers with green and blue luster dusts to give them an iridescent appearance.
Orange raspberries and carved buttercream.
This cake had gumpaste raspberries and leaves.
Goth garden and tree wedding cake.
This was an unusual cake because it featured arches based on a local landmark. It also has a candy clay tree on top, and piped wrought iron fencing on the top tier.
Pink seashells wedding cake.
A pretty common nature-based theme for wedding cakes is the “under the sea” beach cake with fondant shells on it.
This one also had fondant pearls around the bases and on the tiers.
Chocolate pinecones.

Fondant feathery leaves and dahlias.
This cake had burgundy gumpaste chrysanthemums and fondant leaves made from a fancy silicone mold.
Branches with birds and flowers.
This cake had fondant birds, flowers and long pieces of grass on a sky blue background. This design would be good for a nature lover who enjoys the countryside.
Floral brush embroidery.
This sky blue cake with white brush embroidery celebrates nature with flowers, leaves, and vining branches.
Alice cake with a chocolate clay tree.
This Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland cake had a tree cake stand that used gumpaste and wafer paper leaves and wafer paper flowers dangling from the tree. It used the same tree cake stand template that I used for the next cake.

Enchanted Forest nature cake.
This enchanted woods cake featured a bottom tier that was covered in chocolate clay to look like bark with fiddlehead ferns, flowers, and ivy climbing it.
I used candy clay to model the tree and the face on it. You could also add more nature-inspired decorations like little gumpaste animals.
