Quick Tip: How To Dust Gumpaste Flowers For More Realism

Just a hint…When you’re coloring gumpaste, make sure that you’re not dusting or spraying only one color.

Flowers have more than one tone to them, and using different shades will look better than one flat color.

Here we have some green hydrangeas…They’re okay, but add a little pink to them and they get a little more dimension.

It’s subtle here, but you can make the secondary color darker if you prefer.

Some types of flowers are lighter at the base of the petal and are sometimes colorless at the center compared to the edges of the petals.

Adding different colors will give a depth to the flowers and make them pop a little.

You can add a contrasting color like I did here, or use a darker version of the main color to add some shadowing.

Adding a green or blue will give some dimension to the green gumpaste without being as obvious as the pink is.
